Tide-Interactive Floatplane Terminal

Vancouver International Airport

UBC Studio, 2017

This project, located on the Morey Channel of the Fraser River, includes a floatplane terminal, hangar, operations centre, restaurant, event space, hotel, and spa. A floating floor registers tidal fluctuations against a roof that is fixed on piles. A compressible, curtain-like facade encloses three primary programmatic blocks, allowing the floor to rise and fall with the tides.
